Mrs. Melva Louaine Johnson, daughter of Orval Joseph Martin and Leora Ameila (Saratt) Martin, was born May 5, 1938 in Collins, MO and passed away at 5:45 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, at the age of 73 years and 10 months.
She worked as an self-employed tax preparer for 32 years, as well as an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics.
Melva and Dan enjoyed traveling cross country. Some of their favorite destinations were Colorado and Alaska, and they especially loved the mountains.
Playing Dominos and card games with friends and family was something that Melva enjoyed. She had many various hobbies during her life including stamp collecting, painting, sewing, crafts and piano playing.
Melva came to know Christ through her husband, Dan, and was saved as a young adult. Her faith in Christ was constant throughout her life and she passed on this Christian heritage to her children and grandchildren. Melva served faithfully in many different positions with church families. She was currently a member of the Victory Life Church in Rogersville, and served as the church secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel Gene; and a brother, Floyd Dwayne Martin.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Jeanne Hampton and her husband, Dennis, Hartville, Pamela Dawn Chapman, Marshfield, and Amber Lynn Armstrong, Marshfield; a son, Kendall Allen Johnson, Marshfield; two sisters, Czerna Jean Kauffman and her husband, Allen, Collins, MO and LaVange Lucille Johnson and her husband, Steve, Seely Lake, Montana; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 in Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield, with the Rev. Ronnie Bakker officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hartville.
Visitation will be from 7-8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gideons.
