Richard D. Atkinson
Master Staff Sergeant, Richard Atkinson, age 51, of Marshfield, Missouri, passed away on June 26, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 10th, 1974, Richard was the son of Verlee Atkinson and David Gaylon. Following his graduation from Strafford High School in 1993, Richard answered the call to serve his country, beginning a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Air Force. Richard was stationed at Lajes Air Force Base in Portugal, Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS and Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM. He retired in 2014 with the rank of Master Staff Sergeant. Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Janese Atkinson, whom he married on November 4, 1995; his brothers, Wayne Young (Debra), James Young, Bobby Young (Amanda), Raymond Barton, and Mark Bray (Kim); his sisters, Connie Lillard, Deborah Kincannon (Robie), and Theresa Yarberry (Chuck); friends, Janene and Bob Proctor, Kassie and Eugene Lucero, Allen and Amey Dawson, and Shane and Amber Salsman; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Steven Young and Roy Gene Young; his sister-in-law, Sandra Young; and brother-in-law, Wayne Lillard.
Richard was known for his big heart and his great laugh. He cared deeply for those he loved. He will be missed greatly.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield. Graveside service with military honors will be on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
