Gus Gustafson
Elmer Edmund “Gus” Gustafson, Jr., of Marshfield, MO, was born on November 7, 1949, in Chestertown, MD, to Elmer Edmund Gustafson, Sr. and Jennie (Grussing) Gustafson. He departed this life on June 18, 2026, in his home at the age of 76.
He was united in marriage to Marsha Tannehill on April 4, 1977 in Dixon, MO.
Gus served in the United States Army stateside during the Vietnam conflict as a medic. He later served in the Army Reserves and the Navy Reserves. He worked as an X-ray tech and orthopedic tech before becoming a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service.
Throughout his life, Gus was a farmer. He enjoyed tending to his cattle, chickens, and rabbits. Gus loved working his garden and socializing with the community while a vendor at local farmers' markets for 12 years.
The two most important aspects of his life were his faith and his family. Gus was a devout Christian who genuinely lived by the teachings of a compassionate Christ. Gus loved cooking and baking for family and friends, and he cherished time spent playing with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Ellen Kelley, Betty Unruh, Jennie Rodney and his twin, Elma Myers.
Gus is survived by his wife Marsha Gustafson, of the home; his son, Erik Gustafson and wife Ginni of Marshfield; his daughter, Regan Gustafson of Springfield; one sister, Mariann Dulin of Chestertown, MD; three grandchildren, Austin Gustafson and wife Krenna, Corbin Gustafson and Elisabeth Gustafson; and two great-grandchildren, Eden and Alden Gustafson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25,2026, at Crossway Baptist Church, 2900 N Barnes Ave, Springfield, MO 65803, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield.
