Nelda Hutchins

Nelda Kay Hutchins, 83, of Marshfield, Missouri, went peacefully to her Heavenly home on Friday, January 23, 2026, where she was reunited with her son, Charles Bradley.

Nelda Kay was born March 25, 1942, in Richland, Missouri, to Glenn W. and Ruth Maxine (Hall) Jones. She was a 1960 graduate of Richland High School and attended Blue Bonnet Cosmetology School. While pursuing her education to become a surgical technician, Nelda worked evenings at Katz Discount Center, where she met her soon-to-be husband. Two months later, she was united in marriage to Charles Clayton on February 27, 1965.

As a young married couple, Nelda and Charles moved often due to Charles’s military service, including time at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and three years in West Germany. In the summer of 1972, they settled in the Marshfield area, where Nelda began a dedicated career at Mercy Hospital. She served as a surgical technician for 30 plus years, spending her final eight years in labor and delivery. She retired in 2003.

Nelda had many talents and hobbies, including sewing, crocheting, gardening, and house plants. She dearly loved her many pets over the years. She found joy and peace fishing and camping at Bennett Spring State Park. After retirement, Nelda and Charles enjoyed traveling the country with Marsh Tours, taking a Hawaiian cruise, and vacationing with her grandchildren throughout the Southwest. She especially loved taking month-long road trips to visit her daughter in Phoenix and traveling to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. December 2025 Nelda was able to spend the month with her husband in Key West enjoying ocean views and God’s beautiful sunsets.

Nelda was a member of the Baptist faith and enjoyed studying Beth Moore Bible studies, often teaching and guiding others in bible study. When Nelda’s vibrant personality was eventually affected by dementia, Charles’s love and devotion sheltered and protected her until her final day.

Nelda is survived by her loving husband, Charles Clayton, of nearly 61 years; her daughter, Betheny Michelle Rodden and husband, Greg, Key West, Florida; her son, Shannon Glenn Hutchins and wife, Krissie; Blue Springs, Missouri;  and her precious grandchildren, Conner Patrick Hutchins and wife, Faith; Brooklynn Leana Hutchins; Morgen Kay Hutchins; and Nicholas Ryan Hass. She is also survived by a host of in-laws and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Bradley Hutchins, in 1997, and her parents.

Funeral Services will be 11:30 A.M. Saturday, January 31 at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., 1131 State Highway A., Marshfield, MO 65706. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Private inurnment at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The Turtle Hospital of Marathon, Florida; or Honor Flight of the Ozarks in care of the funeral home.
