Anne St. Clair Foster

Anne St. Clair Foster, 81, Marshfield passed away after a long illness on April 13, 2026, in her home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Richmond, VA to E. B. St. Clair and Irene Pucket St. Clair, Anne completed her education in Salem, VA and Arlington, VA, graduated from Wakefield High school, and attended Frederick College, in Portsmouth, VA.

Anne’s mother married O. V. Campell, who became Anne’s father in every possible way, when she was 10 years old.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cmdr. John Fyan Foster, USN (1993), her stepfather (2001), her mother (2005) and her stepson, John Charles Foster (2023).

While residing in Arlington, Anne met John Foster and they married on August 14, 1965. Her interest in travel was undoubtedly sparked in the first year of their marriage, as she, along with a small group of Navy officer wives, followed their husbands to the European ports of call of the US Navy Operation Sea Orbit - Task Force 1, the first nuclear surface force to circumnavigate the world.  For which John was Force Navigator.  In 1970, John and Anne, with 10 year old John, 2 year old Tracy and infant Rob, were stationed to Ankara, Turkey for three years. Then following John’s retirement from his last station at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, in 1974, they moved their young family to John’s hometown of Marshfield, MO.

Anne thrived in her new hometown, embracing its people and her extended family.  Always gracious and generous, Anne hosted innumerable dinner parties and social events, opening her home and heart to so many.

Anne worked at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. In Missouri, while raising her family, she worked outside the home, primarily in the field of real estate, as a realtor, a broker, and a real estate appraiser, ultimately owning and operating the Anne Foster Appraisal Company, for 26 years, before she retired.

She also served her community in many ways, including as one of the founding members of the TLC Student Fund, member of the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Art Club, and for over 25 years as a regular volunteer at Hubble Elementary School

Anne continued to travel, visiting no less than 31 countries in Asia, Europe, North America and Central America, returning to some destinations several times

Anne’s deep faith was fully expressed through the way she lived and showed love to so many.   In Virginia, she grew up in the Baptist Church, and for the last 52 years she was a member of the Marshfield United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She is survived by her brother Dr. Edward St. Clair, his wife Judith Fagan, her daughter, Tracy Anne (Foster) Gray, son-in-law Gary Gray, and her son Robert St. Clair Foster and five grandchildren, John Robert Gray, Anne Elizabeth Gray, John Jackson Foster, Claire Fyan Foster and Rose Elizabeth Foster, and many nieces and nephews and cousins whom she adored.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the TLC Student Fund, which provides for disadvantaged students of Marshfield R-1 Schools.
