Phyllis Sue Hightower
Phyllis Sue Hightower of Springfield, Missouri, was born on August 5, 1937, in Grovespring, MO, to Orville and Amy (Hamilton) Jones. She departed this life on October 10, 2025, in her home at the age of 88.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Billy Owen Hightower on August 5, 1959 in Grovespring. She enjoyed traveling while her husband was in the military, during which time she worked many jobs and gained a lot of life experience. After he retired from the military, they settled back in Grovespring. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, fishing, bowling and bird watching. Phyllis was a seamstress and had worked at HD Lee in Lebanon as well as K-Way Camping.
She loved being outdoors. Later in life she would sit on the deck and listen to the waterfall and birds singing while she rocked. She loved to go shopping as long as her health permitted. Her family was very important to her. She loved visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those visits always put a smile on her face.
Phyllis had made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age. She enjoyed attending church for as long as her health allowed.
Her favorite quote: “Focus on your blessings, not your struggles. Let gratitude fill your heart for all that God has done for you.” This was the motto for her life.
She faced many health struggles throughout her life. She never let those struggles get the best of her. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Owen Hightower; three sisters, Helen Hightower, Joyce Hicks and Mary Todd; one brother, Robert Jones; and her beloved dog, Sasha.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Starlene Broesder and husband Dale; her brother Rolland “Pooch” Jones and wife Beverly; two grandsons, Michael Weaver and Matthew Broesder and wife Stephanie; three great-grandchildren, Lily Weaver, Emma Broesder and Avery Broesder; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield. Interment will follow in Marshfield Cemetery. Visitation will be before services in the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday.
