Elsie Mae Smith

Elsie Mae Smith of Conway, MO, was born on June 8, 1947 in Seymour, MO, to Virgil and Ida (Kleir) Gallion. She departed this life on March 27, 2026, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 78.

In 1964, Elsie was united in marriage to James Leonard Smith in Fordland, MO. Together, they dairy farmed for many years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Elsie was a people person and loved talking to everyone. She adored her family. Elsie loved Jesus and loved her church, First Penecostal Church of Conway, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith; her parents; one son, James Smith, Jr. “Tuffy”; one great-grandson, Jonathan Hougardy; siblings, James Gallion, Jessie Gallion, Kathy Garfit, Linda Owens, Sue Sampson, and Gene Gallion.

Elsie is survived by her son, Bobby J. Smith of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Kimberly Hougardy and husband John of Conway; four siblings, Alice Ragsdale of Seymour, Richard Gallion of Seymour, Carol Gardner of Marshfield, and Henry Gallion of Springfield; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elsie Smith will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield. Visitation will be before services from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
